M is in mourning. His grandmother, the novelist and poet Andrée Chedid, died Sunday, Feb. 6 at the age of 90 years. His death was announced by his publisher Flammarion. Born in Cairo in 1920 and headquartered in Paris since 1946, Andree Chedid was a renowned author. She has written some twenty books of poetry but also short stories, novels and plays.
She received the Prix Goncourt for poetry in 2002 and was elevated to the rank of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor in 2009. Andree Chedid was the inspiration for his son Louis, who has written several songs from his latest album. For his part, Mathieu Chedid, better known by the stage name of M, has dedicated to his grandmother's Deliver song, released in 2009 because "they (we) issue with his words."
