Shakira soon rewarded for his musical career but also his work with charities

Shakira is about to receive the award of Entertainer of the Year of the Harvard Foundation, in tribute to his musical career but also his work with charities. The prestigious Harvard Foundation shall each year award to a public figure involved with a humanitarian effort. The Colombian artist is thus put in the spotlight for his music to be universal and provided assistance to underprivileged children.


The director of the Foundation, S. Allen Counter said his choice for this year 2011: "Students and professors from the Harvard Foundation are honored to offer the prize to Shakira's 2011 Artist of the Year. His contribution to music and creativity have been lauded by distinguished people worldwide and is highly admired internationally for its humanitarian efforts through his foundation Barefoot.

"Shakira is not only the international singer with 50 million albums sold ... The young woman has her own foundation (Barefoot), which has already built several schools, to provide a decent education to the poorest children. She is also Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF since 2003. She will receive her award at the annual Cultural Rhythms festival to be held next Feb. 26 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
